![]() In the end, I'm less concerned about the action surviving the transition from anime than some of the underlying philosophical questions that Ghost in the Shell raises getting tossed as the movie is dumbed down for 'broader appeal'.Īs for the original movie, I just don't think a live action remake that hewed closely to the source material would work for an American audience. Imagine what, say, a Christopher Nolan, could do with this property. But my guess is that they won't want to pass on the wider audience, so we'll get a PG13 version. An 'R' rated Ghost in the Shell with the right director could be the next Blade Runner. If not, little about the series is going to transfer mediums well.
